I love Thursdays. I’m not really 100% sure why but every time they roll around I get excited. Maybe because it’s almost the weekend? Maybe because I have Friday morning’s off, who knows.

Today I thought I would join in with running with spoon’s weekly linkup –

Thinking-Out-Loud

I love when Christina from The Athletairan does hers, plus, who doesn’t love a little randomness right?

1. I have been seriously digging 90’s music lately. I’ve always been a fan but right now I can’t get enough. I think part of it is because it reminds me of my dad. He loved music so much and had such eclectic taste. In his car there would always be a variety of CD’s with everything from Nirvana, Sade, Foo Fighters, Amanda Marshall and Lil Wayne. The 90’s playlists on Songza are on point, I catch myself singing along more frequently than I’d like to admit

2. Speaking of 90’s music when I was younger my dad told me that the Gin Blossom’s song ‘Hey Jealousy’ was actually called ‘Hey Chelsey’ and I believed him. Not only did I believe him but it took me until high school to realize what the song’s lyrics actually were. So naive.

3. I HATE getting gas in the weather. Like absolutely can not stand it. I wait until my car is scary low before filling up and I curse almost the entire time I’m out there.

4. Did you know that the little arrow beside the icon of the gas pump in your car indicates what side your tank is on?

what-side-your-car-is-gas-tank-on-easy-trick-will-tell-you-every-time.w654

Is your mind just totally blown right now? Mine was. Now if you’re driving your friends car and want to be a nice person and put some gas in you won’t have to try and look out the window and see.

5. I burn myself in the kitchen quite regularly. The oven mits we have are those weird plastic-y ones like this:

The only thing is they have a hole in the palm and I still burn my forearm/wrist using these. I could just go buy a different pair but every time I look I never see any I like. I suppose I’m picky when it comes to efficient oven mitts. Weird.

6. My quads hurt so bad today when I went to roll them out this morning. Yesterday I performed front squat tabata using just a standard 45lb olympic bar and while it was tough while I was doing it I did not expect my legs to be as sore as they were today.

7. I got bored and added up the total number of reps I’ll be doing for each lift this week and here’s what it looks like:

  • Squat – 224 reps
  • Bench – 224 reps
  • Deadlift – 112 reps
  • Glute Ham Raise – 320 reps
  • Pullaparts – 640 reps

That’s a whoooole lotta reps! I perform all those in 4 workouts. Love high volume work.

8. The other day Steve and I were deadlifting at the same time and we got talking about callouses. I used to have callouses on the tips of my fingers from playing classical guitar and I hated them. Now I’m proud of the ones on my hands. We came to realize that when we hold hands our callouses touch. I still can’t decide if that’s cute or gross.

This picture doesn’t do Steve’s callouses justice, they’re pretty bad ass.

9. I’m jealous that us Canadians don’t get the same awesome commercials the Americans get but I’m still excited for the Super Bowl this weekend. It’ll be low key for us but I’m making home made pizza and baked chicken wings. Yum!

10. I mentioned last week that I’ve been enjoying bulletproof coffee in the morning (coffee + ghee + coconut oil). I also like to add sweetener and cinnamon to mine.

Before blending…

After blending – see how creamy it gets

Anyways I noticed that each morning when I make said coffee I sing that song ‘bulletproof’ either in my head or even out loud on occasion. Yeah, I’m a special girl.

Well that was definitely a random post but I’m pretty random so I guess it fits.

Questions –

Tell me something random about your week.

Watching Super Bowl on Sunday?

My family will be enjoying the Super Bowl from the comfort of our sofa. Just us, some games and a little bit of bad food.

That’s my favourite way to spend Super Bowl too. I went out to the bar one year – expensive, loud, crowded. Not for me.

I’m the same.exact.way when it comes to filling up my gas in the cold. I’ll try to drag it out for as long as I possibly can, and then wait for a warmer day to fill up. I’ve been lucky so far when it comes to pushing my car almost to the red, but I have a feeling one day it’s going to bite me in the ass big time… And it’s going to be fantastic running out of gas in -20 weather lol 😆

I’ve only run out of gas once and it was in my old car. The gauge said 1/2 a tank but it was bone dry. Luckily it was summer but it was still a pain in the ass.

LOL every time I get the train to Waterloo station, I sing Waterloo. I really thought it would have stopped after two years of living here but I guess not!

That is a hell of a lot of reps. I did “high volume” squats this week but, including my warm up sets, that was only 55 reps total haha! Normally I’m more around the 40 range. I’m super impressed that you can do that many glute ham raises!!

I love glute ham raises – I only do 5 reps between each set but it sure adds up fast.

I buy mine at the Asian grocery store but I’ve seen it at Superstore as well. You just have to look in the Indian/ethnic food section. 🙂
