Ok so I’ve got 3.5 weeks left on my new nutrition plan after which I will still be following it, only gradually adding fruits and some dairy back in. Things so far have been going extremely well and I’m really happy with my overall energy and body composition.
One thing I have really missed though is my Parmesan cheese. I love this stuff. I put in on my brown rice, chicken and occasionally on my popcorn (when I’m permitted to have it). I don’t use a lot, just enough to give it that lovely nutty cheesy taste.
Well I think I may have found a stellar substitute: Nutritional Yeast
Nutritional yeast is really popular in the raw food/vegan community and after looking into it some more I can certainly see why. This stuff is loaded with healthy goodness from complete protein to vitamins B12 and B6, being gluten free and it contains a good amount of fiber. Here is a breakdown of what 2 tblsp (16g) contains:
- 45 Cal
- 5g Carbs
- 4g Fibre
- 8g Protein
I should note that nutritional or flaked yeast does not contain any active yeast.
This stuff is delicious sprinkled over rice and can be added anywhere you are looking for a cheesy taste without the added fat and calories. It can easily be found at any bulk barn store in the spice aisle by the other types of yeast.
Give it a try – it’s cheap and delicious.
