Well heeeeeeeyyyyy there! I have been MIA from all forms of social media for almost a week now, but I have a really good reason. Steve’s amazing Opa passed away last Saturday so I have been focusing on spending time with family and celebrating his wonderful life these past days.

He leaves behind his lovely wife of almost 56 years, children and 19 grandchildren. He was awesome. He always had the biggest smile and just loved to be around people. He will be greatly missed but our memories will serve to comfort us.

Since his passing I’ve had a hard time getting back into the blogging swing of things. Nothing really seemed important enough for me to talk about so I’ll ease back into it today. Here are some of my latest favourite things.

My New Under Amour Gear

I’m not revealing it all yet (I want to take pictures of me in it) but I am so stoked to rock out in this gear while participating in the What’s Beautiful Under Amour Challenge with Fitfluential. I feel very lucky indeed.

I am an under armour junkie, seriously, I LOVE the stuff. I only wish that they made a more natural feeling shoe like the Nike Free series. I like to be close to the ground, have a small heel and lots of freedom of movement. Some of their new shoes look like they are a step in the right direction so I’ll just have to wait and see.

Everyone should read Tara’s 2 part post on metabolic damage. That’s all I’m going to say. DO IT!

I really really want the chance to workout with Tara one day and then drink beer and eat burgers together.

This Pink Coat

My aunt bought me this coat for my birthday and I absolutely love it. I get so many compliments when I wear it and just feel so elegant in it. FYI it’s the same one Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) wore on gossip girl. I know, I’m kind of a big deal.

While I absolutely love that I basically live in comfy workout clothes every once in a while I miss getting dressed up. Lately on weekends I’ve been trying to dress up a little bit more (at this point jeans and heels is dressing up).

Also, I sometimes get dressed up when I do my Costco run. I have nice clothes that I want to wear out and if I have to make Costco my runway, so be it.

The Cottage

Before we got the news about Steve’s Opa we made our way up to the cottage. We arrived just after midnight on Friday (technically Saturday), and while they weren’t calling for great weather it wound up being super nice out! I just love it up there (Tobermory ways).

20130518_123119 20130518_123133 20130518_122937 20130518_121534 20130518_121200_1 20130518_121131 20130518_115348

I have a slight addiction to our dog Tyson. I absolutely love, love love the furry bugger. Steve and I both do. He is with us every day at the gym and he just has the best personality. Part of the reason we love the cottage so much is because we can bring him too. I just can’t imagine a better dog for the two of us.

I did a little update (there’s still more but my formatting is being all weird without using windows writer) to my blogs and links page today. I read a bunch of different blogs on everything from fitness and nutrition to DIY projects and at home stuff. While I have been horrible, and I mean horrible at commenting lately the ones I have listed so far are the ones I check out all the time.

There are a couple of blogs and people on instagram that I have stopped following lately. I’ve done this for a couple reasons (depending on the person) but here are the main motivators. #1 – waaaaay too many pictures about random, irrelevant things. I don’t need to see 10+ pictures of a sunset in a row, I get it nature is beautiful but 1 picture will do. #2 You post pictures of you working out 3+ times a day while making others feel guilty for not following suit. I don’t like it when others act holier than though and make it seem like it’s not ok to indulge once in a while or take rest days since rest days are necessary and needed.

#3 This one applies to a couple blogs I used to read and kind of goes along with #2. I’m tired of people saying that they’re ‘healthy living bloggers’ when in reality they are not leading a healthy lifestyle at all. No I’m not talking about people claiming to be healthy but then writing about eating cheeseburgers (cheeseburgers are delicious and can fit into a healthy lifestyle). No I’m talking about those people who restrict their food and over exercise and act like everything is hunky-dory.

Some of these bloggers claim to indulge and treat themselves to dessert here and there, but there are never any pictures of this, they always ‘forget’ to take them. Meanwhile they have 20+ pictures of the rest of the meal. They also claim to struggle to put on weight yet they do workouts and exercise that is counter productive to building mass. Instead of lifting heavy they do random workout’s of the day that aren’t specific to any one person and can wreak havoc on your adrenal system if performed too often (more on that in a future post).

With some of these bloggers I literally feel like I’m watching a car wreck in slow motion and can’t stop it. They are misguiding their readers and only fooling themselves and I just can’t read anymore. With some of them, I was reading with hopes that they would realize they need help but most are in such denial that I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Depriving yourself and over exercising while malnourished can have serious consequences and I just won’t support that.

Well that just got all sorts of serious there didn’t it. Just needed to get it off my chest I suppose.

I just realized I’ve spent almost an hour on this tiny post thanks to not having my other computer at home – gee whiz. To all of my American peeps, I hope you have an awesome long weekend and to everyone else, see ya next week!

Aww you’re so sweet! I know we will meet one day and rock the workout and burgers 😀

Firstly, I love your pink coat! Gossip Girl is my favourite guilty pleasure and I would die to have Blair’s coat!!

Secondly, I have a good inkling which blogger you are referring to 😉 You know that I have tried to help but I wish more people would stop supporting and enabling her (especially those who are supposed to be fitness professionals). Her latest posts are particularly concerning and this is the first time I genuinely fear that something fatal could happen in a matter of weeks. I think more people are seeing through her deceit as some of her lies have started to come back to bite her on the ass, but sadly there are still so many young impressionable girls that look up to her. It is so irresponsible for her to be promoting what is essentially a starvation diet combined with an intense exercise regime, and the thought of her actually coaching others makes me nauseous. She desperately needs some kind of intervention – it’s just difficult to confront someone without alienating them and pushing them further into a disorder.

You guys look great! I’m jealous of the glorious sunshine – I desperately need to get to the beach and get some sun on my transparent skin. Sorry to hear about Steve’s Opa. I hope you guys are both ok xx

Yes, I just finally got fed up with all of the excuses she keeps dishing out. The fact that she has so many followers that she can influence makes me sad and I agree that I cringe at the thought of her coaching others. I definitely don’t want to come across as mean, but I feel like a phoney pretending that nothing is wrong. Oh well, people have to want to change I suppose.

You’re going to the beach in a month or so right? Where is it you’re headed again? I can’t wait to get back to the cottage again.

AMEN to the end of this post! I cringe at some blogs these days, and I hate it too when I eat something unhealthy and get all this negative backlash, I mean healthy is LIVING and not depriving, balance and moderation. At least to me it is. The working out stuff too, I of course workout but learned to not overdo it anymore, got myself on a bad road with that in the past, working out too much and not fueling enough, so it is hard to see others doing this. I know it is hard to break that and is a dark path but there is light at the end if you want it and if you want to do what is best for your body, you have to honor it and get through the tough road!

I also cringe when people compare pregnancy weight and ask me how much I gained or say I look tiny or say wow I am same weeks as you and bigger, it makes me sad. We are ALL different, no need to compare and wtf you are supposed to gain weight when pregnant!! Not be skinny, so it irritates me very much! Some women should be so lucky to get pregnant, so many people struggle to or can’t, so it is a blessing, and its sad when people act like that when they are pregnant.

I just adore you and I am sorry about his opa passing, love and prayers to you guys <3

Katie, you are just the sweetest thing! I adore your positivity and how you encourage people not to judge others. Love and respect all the way. You are definitely an inspiration that it is possible for people to stay active while pregnant, but just like you said – everyone is different. Your nursery looks ADORABLE. You are my sunshine is something my mom always sang to me – so precious.

Thanks so much for the love, Steve is lucky to have such an awesome big family so there is lots and lots of support.

P.S. Do you know Katie Campbell? I see you follow her on instagram, just curious as she is a real life friend of mine.

I am sorry to hear about Steve’s grandfather. It’s such a tough time when you loose a loved one.

I can totally relate about ‘fake’ healthy living bloggers, i think I know the one you are referring to, and it’s been unraveling fast the past few weeks. It’s really scary.

You look bloody awesome in that picture of you at the cottage too – sexy and STRONG!

Thanks girly. You looked AMAZING at your competition. Are you still in Bali? Your pictures on instagram make me want to get away!

Thanks so much Chelsey! I definitely enjoyed this show/comp a lot more than the last. No I’m back from Bali now – it was only a four day trip (flights were on sale).

Hi Chelsey! I haven’t commented in a while but I was just going through some of your posts and this one just called my name! A few things:
    1. I am sorry for your loss. Losing someone is one of the hardest things and my prayers are with you, Steve, and the rest of the family.
    2. You look freaking amazing in that coat, not ti mention in a bikini (I saw that pic on IG – You are rocking that multicoloured one like crazy!)
    3. Thank you for writing that bit about other “healthy living bloggers”. It’s easy to compare yourself to others in the blog world and it becomes dangerous when you follow certain people. I started to question my own diet and exercise regime far more often than I know is normal. There needs to be more bloggers like you who continue to inspire people by living such a well-balanced life!

I hope you have a great day!

Christina you are so stinkin’ sweet! I absolutely love how real you keep your blog. You never shy away from posting meals that may not be considered healthy and I think so many people admire that, I know I do! I just started to feel bad about certain things I was eating when I had no reason to so I had to stop reading other people’s posts that seemed to be very restrictive or not very truthful.

What time are you doing the colour run thingy at? I’m doing it too and would love it if we met up, even if it was super briefly!

      • June 7, 2013 at 11:34 am

Haha I actually get emails about that all the time. People are like, “You’re SO NORMAL!” It makes me laugh but that’s what I am! I have really healthy days and really unhealthy days and I don’t ever try to hide it! 🙂 I like junk food too much to give it up for good haha.

I’d love to meet you at the colour run! I am doing it on the Sunday at 10am! Let me know if you are there that day as well.
