I’ve always enjoyed taking a peak into the lives of some of the bloggers that I follow. I think it’s interesting to see how others spend their day and hey, we’re all a little nosy right? So I thought it would be fun to do a day in the life post so you can catch a glimpse into my life. Being a gym owner you can imagine that my days are different depending on what’s going on. There’s accounting, marketing, training and just general business stuff that needs to get done to keep things functioning. With that said, here was one of my days last week. 6:45 AM – Wake up. I turn off the alarm on my phone and check my email while laying in bed. Steve’s already downstairs making breakfast and I can smell the freshly brewed coffee. I make my way down and grab a cup and open up the laptop. 7:00 AM – Check emails for all of our business accounts and take a look at the schedule for the day. Usually the TV is on in the background – I’ve been digging Leave it to Bryan on HGTV lately. 7:15 – 8:00 AM – I know it’s going to be a later night at the gym so I prep part of dinner and also make another batch of my protein apple oat bake for our afternoon snack. I also make a batch of green tea lemonade to drink during the afternoon. Steve heads out to the gym anywhere between 7:30 and 8 most mornings. In between prepping food I also read a couple articles while Tyson lounges. 8:00 – 8:15 AM – Get ready for the day. This doesn’t take long as all I have to do is slap on some BB cream and pick out my clothes for the day. 8:15 – 8:30 AM – I pack everything up for the day and take my supplements (fish oil, vitamin D and maca powder). I usually am always lugging around 4 bags to and from the gym – gym bag, laptop bag, purse, food. 8:45 – 9:00 AM – Arrive at the gym. Steve has already vacuumed (because he’s awesome) and is working out . I unpack my bags and get settled in. 9:50 – 11:00 AM – Train my first clients of the day. They are a lovely couple who I’ve been working with for over a year now. 11:15 AM – Start rolling out and get ready for my workout. 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Workout. Today is bench/pressing day and while the weights are heavy, everything feels surprisingly good. 12:30 – 12:45 PM – Steve is doing a podcast interview so I eat my post workout meal in the back area using our box squat boxes so I don’t disturb him. 12:45 – 1:00 PM – Set things up for one of Steve’s clients that’s coming in soon. 1:00 – 2:45 PM – This time differs each day depending on what I have going on. I either run out to the bank, do accounting, read blogs and articles (if I have time) and write up training and meal plans. 2:45 – 3:00 PM – Steve and I play with Tyson again and I take him outside. 3:00 – 3:15 PM – Write up the workout on my whiteboard for my bootcamp/HIIT groups and set things up for my next clients. Between 3 and 8pm is when Steve and I are both the busiest with clients. 3:30 – 4:30 PM – Small group training session. I love my small group clients, they are always pushing each other and coaching women to lift is one of my all time favourite things.
(This video is actually from last night’s session, Jakki hit 330lbs on the trap bar)
4:30 – 5:30 PM – Boot camp!
We did this workout and I joined in the fun5:30 – 6:15 PM – HIIT training. This is our high intensity interval training session. Today included backward prowler drags into a prowler push that we did in a pyramid style adding more weight each round and then progressing down. Between the prowler drags and pushes we did a bunch of accessory work. It left the girls totally gassed. 6:30 – 7:30 PM – Another boot camp class! For this class we did the deck of cards workout. We didn’t do it exactly as written below but followed a similar format. 7:30 – 7:45 PM Put equipment away and get things packed up to bring home. Steve will still have clients for another hour(ish). I collect the nutrition write ups I had some clients do. Before I write an in depth plan for anyone I make them write out a weeks worth of eating so I can get an idea of their eating habits. 7:45 – 8:00 PM – Drive home 8:00 PM – Arrive home, preheat oven. Bring gym bag upstairs and unpack. Tyson is exhausted from all the attention he received all night from our clients so he takes a quick power nap. 8:15 – 8:30 PM – Get the rest of dinner prepped. We’re having PaleOMG’s spaghetti squash bake so I brown the sausage and get everything assembled and thrown in the oven. 8:30 – 9:00 PM – Empty the dishwasher and vacuum and steam the floors. Seeing as we pack food to bring with us every single day, we have a lot of tupperware to wash. We normally run the dishwasher every 3 days. I alternate vacuuming and steaming the floors with cleaning the bathrooms and dusting. If I do this during the week I can normally relax more on weekends. Ninja (seriously my fave kitchen appliance ever, saves me sooooo much time) and sweat them out in a pot and then add homemade stock and let it simmer. 10 minutes before Steve gets home I throw in some leftover frozen gnocchi. 10:00 PM – Retreat to the couch and put on a episode of Strike Back. We just started watching this series and we’re both really liking it. While watching the show we snack on some apples with cinnamon and stevia and homemade protein peanut butter cups.
Tyson just passes out. 11:00 – 11:15 PM – Get ready for bed. 11:30 PMish – Lights Out. So there you have it, a day in the life. Like I said, I can be all over the place depending on how many clients I have in but this is pretty typical. This is the reason that Friday nights are a write off for Steve and I, we’re usually exhausted by the end of the week. I just feel really lucky that I get to spend all my time with my favourite guy and our pup doing something we both truly love.
