There are certain foods that we often miss while trying to eat healthier and for many, pizza is a big one. I have tried several versions of healthy pizza crusts and this one is my favourite so far. This one still has about 18g of carbs (for the whole thing) but 10 of those come from fibre, so 8g net carbs. It is also higher in fat due to the cheese so this recipe may or may not work for you depending on your diet.

I got this recipe from a forum on T-Nation here.

  • 2 cups of shredded cheese (part skim or low-fat to reduce calories)

  • 3 omega-3 eggs (or 2 eggs and 1/4 cup egg whites)
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut flour (You can get this at Bulk Barn)
  • 2 tablespoons of milled/ground flax seed (I like the golden flax in this recipe but both kinds will work)
    • I like to grind my own flax seed at home to prevent it from going rancid
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano
  • Other pizza spices

      Putting It Together

      • Preheat oven to 350°
      • Mix all the ingredients together
        • Form into ball and flatten it out to appx 1/4″ depending on how you like your crust
          • Or you can make smaller circles to use as burger buns like I did

          • Bake for 12 – 15 minutes and flip then bake for another 10 – 15 minutes

          • Add your choice of pizza toppings and place back in the oven under broil to heat through
            • For a lower fat version of pepperoni try Butterball turkey pepperoni

I used the smaller ones as burger buns the other night and they worked pretty well, a little dry so I may try tweaking the recipe to make a more moist burger bun
