We’re at the 4 month mark, say what?!

  • Baby is about 4.5 inches long, approximately 4 ounces and the size of an avocado
  • His/her ears are developed and can probably detect sound – which means our baby may come out loving loud aggressive rap with how much we play at the gym
  • Baby can now detect light even though their eyelids are sealed shut
  • He/she is pumping a whopping 25 quarts of blood per day
  • Baby will triple in weight(!?) in the next three weeks and continue to add inches



Weight gained: About 6-7 pounds so far

Workouts: I’ve managed to get in a workout every day this week so far although Monday’s was only about 20 minutes. I stopped box squatting this week because it just felt off last week. So, this week I lightened the weight and did a few ‘heavier for me right now’ sets and then dropped the weight way down and did some 1.5 rep sets. This allows me to spend some more time under tension and get in more reps without it affecting my breathing since I’m not supposed to be holding my breath while under tension anymore.



Symptoms: I’ve been feeling good this week aside from a random bout of morning sickness on Monday morning. I also had a wicked headache that lasted from Sunday night to Monday afternoon. I know I’m allowed to take Tylenol but I’m an Advil girl so a cold compress was my best friend that night. My back has been a little achy but no real complaints from this girl.

Food Aversions: I still don’t feel like my usual favorite protein peanut butter cookies but other than that I’m good to go.

Food Cravings: Nothing really. We’ve still been enjoying the same food over here. I will say I actually eat less after dinner now than I did before because I get full much faster these days. Oh actually, I’ve been craving sparkling water lately and enjoying the President’s Choice Mandarin orange water.

Sleep: Aside from Sunday night when I had that whopper of a headache that kept me up, sleep has been good. I admit though, I’m nervous for when I’ll have to stop sleeping on my back and stomach. I start out sleeping on my back but by morning I’m on my stomach. I need to get me one of those pregnancy pillows to make the transition easier.

Maternity clothes?: None yet. All of my jeans still fit but if I have to sit in them for longer than an hour they get a little uncomfortable on my ever growing belly. I really need to get some maternity bras and sports bras though. Recommendations?

Stretch marks? Nope! I’ve been using the Palmers Cocoa Butter Tummy Butter for stretch marks on the daily. My mom never got any on her stomach so I’m hoping I’m the same. I’ve already got some on my thighs and butt from when I gained weight in high school but those are all pretty well faded.

Miss Anything? Lifestyle wise sometimes I miss lifting heavy and working out with lighter weights has been humbling but I’m enjoying tracking my pregnant workout experience. Food wise I’m all good. I cut out caffeine entirely 2 months before we even started trying so there’s been nothing to miss there as I’ve been without for just over 6 months already.

Fun/Weird Stuff From the Week: I’ve had some vivid dreams lately. Some are really weird. Like dreaming about my sister-in-laws upcoming wedding and her getting chased down the aisle by chickens while others have made me happy/sad all at the same time. I’ve had a few dreams about my dad recently and it just reminds me of how much I miss him.

Baby Items Purchased: Yes! So I have that vintage dresser I refinished into a change table that just needs a couple touch ups but last Sunday I picked up some closet organization things from Ikea for the baby’s room.

Looking Forward To: Feeling baby move! I’ve been waiting for those little flutters and I lay down when I’m done eating and try so hard to feel for them but nothing yet. I have my 17 week check up with my family doctor next Wednesday and I’m excited to hear baby’s heartbeat.
