Well hey there!  Hope you all had a fab weekend, I sure did.

Saturday morning I ran a special training session here at the gym. It was a longer, more challenging class to help some people prepare for upcoming obstacle course races (warrior dash, tough mudder, spartan, etc) and for anyone who just wanted to push it. I was a little nervous as you never know how something is going to go but it was awesome!

The girls buddied up and tackled the 10 ‘stations’ I had set up. People were cheering each other on and pushing each other, it was so cool to watch. It really makes me love and appreciate my job to see how hard and out of their comfort zone people will work with a some motivation.

Saturday night we also made our way down to Sunfest.

There were a ton of vendors selling everything from jewellery to artwork to clothes and every type of food imaginable. We just hung out at the beer tent for a bit, walked around, and then it started to rain a bit so we made our way home. I actually didn’t eat ANYTHING there this year. It was sooooo busy and while I thought I wanted a glorious deep fried elephant ear, I wound up passing.

Sunday we slept in and watched movies and hung out and it was perfect, especially since the weather was not. It rained off and on and made for a great day in.

Now as you have likely gathered by the title of this post, I have indeed picked my next fitness competition. As of right now I’m prepping for the UFE’s Halloween Mayhem Show on October 26th in Hamilton. This is a different federation than the one I competed with last year and I’m really excited. I picked this show because, well, one I get to wear a costume if I want to (I have already started thinking about this) and 2, if I look absolutely amazing there are 2 other shows after that I could do as well.

Last year when I began my prep I started a light prep at 16 weeks (no measuring and my cheat meals turned into cheat days) and tightened things up at 12 weeks. This time around I’m starting further out so I can go slow and steady and maintain this muscle I’ve worked so hard to put on. I won’t be measuring anything yet but I will keep a super close eye on my portions. I’m also dropping the number of carb-backloading days from 4-5 to about 3 depending on my training. This way I can drop down to 2 low days later on. With how heavy I lift and how often I’ll see how my body responds and go based off that. Last year at about 2-3 weeks out I really started to lose muscle and I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again. I think I cut carbs too early and too much because I was afraid I wouldn’t lean out if I didn’t. Lesson learned.

It took me a while to pick out a show but now that I have I’m totally pumped! I learned a lot from my first show and am excited to see what I can bring to the table. For me competing isn’t about beating other people, it’s about bringing my best package to the stage. One thing I’m going to try and do is minimize how I let my prep affect my day to day life. That’s not to say I’m not going to think about it or if people ask that I won’t talk about it, I just don’t want the next 4 months of my life to be solely about prep. There is so much more to life and I just don’t want to become defined by the competition.

Now, I debated posting these now or waiting until I leaned out some and then showing my before and after but in an effort to ‘keep it real’ here are some pictures I took this morning in my bloated glory (I enjoyed some ice cream last night as a little treat 😉 ). No posing, no sucking in, no flexing, nothing. I’m not going to lie, it was weird seeing myself in this suit again as the last time I wore it I was much smaller –  however in a normal bikini I feel amazing and confident, weird right?

I don’t want to lose my bum! I’ve worked so hard on it!

Well that’s my news! I’m going to start logging things on my training and food log again so you all can follow along (tomorrow, I forgot today lol). I’ll also be posting weekly updates to let you know how things are going (I’ll keep an easy to find list of updates here, just like I did for my last show).

I appreciate all the support and if you have any questions, ask away!

Woop! So exciting! You look hot already, mama! It sounds like you learnt your mistakes (and successes!) from the last time, so you will be even more stellar this time 🙂

I hope so. I think this time I’ll trust myself more and the leaning out process. I’m hoping I can keep the same style of eating until at least 8 weeks out but we’ll see how it goes. I like that we’re both prepping for something 🙂

I’ve already started looking at costumes, haha. Halloween costumes are much cheaper now than at the beginning of October. I want something unique and might even try making it myself.

aweome chick! so happy to hear you are competiting again! It’s a delicate operation trying to work out when to cut carbs ey? I was still eating them (morning snack and lunch only) for the last month of my prep – up until the week prior to the show when I carb loaded/depleted etc. looking forward to watching your journey again! x

Thanks Ali! I loved following yours and it seems people are more comfortable the second time around as they know what to expect so I hope that’s the case for me!
